Sunday Mornings @ 10:30am

Thanks for loving me!

I will get up and go to my father and say, “Father, I have sinned against God and against you. (Luke 15:18 GNT)

I will get up and go to my father and say, “Father, I have sinned against God and against you. (Luke 15:18 GNT)

Father, we come to sit at your feet now, a straggling, motley crew of men, women, and children who can’t help seeing ourselves as very poor disciples, not just in the eyes of the world, but your eyes as well …

            Why are you smiling Father?

We can’t do it, you see. We can’t be the shining band of light-filled spirits that we wanted to be for you. Little things some of us have managed, small achievements- half achievements, a bit of an attempt, or nothing at all …

Why are you smiling at us like that Father?

We wondered if there was something we could do as a group, rather than on our own. We’re a bit nervous on our own. If we put everything we’ve got together, there might be something worth having, mightn’t there? We couldn’t do worse than we’ve done so far…

Why are you holding out your arms to us Father?

We’re truly sorry to have been so useless. We’ve all agreed that we’re not really Christian material at all…

Why are you smiling and weeping at the same time, Father?

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.’ (Luke 15:20 GNT)

Now remember what you were, my friends, when God called you. From the human point of view few of you were wise or powerful or of high social standing. 27 God purposely chose what the world considers nonsense in order to shame the wise, and he chose what the world considers weak in order to shame the powerful. 28 He chose what the world looks down on and despises and thinks is nothing, in order to destroy what the world thinks is important. (1 Corinthians 1:26-28 GNT)

28 “Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke and put it on you, and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit; and you will find rest. 30 For the yoke I will give you is easy, and the load I will put on you is light.” (Matthew 11:28 GNT)

14 And you are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 I do not call you servants any longer, because servants do not know what their master is doing. Instead, I call you friends, because I have told you everything I heard from my Father. 16 You did not choose me; I chose you and appointed you to go and bear much fruit, the kind of fruit that endures. And so the Father will give you whatever you ask of him in my name.  (John 15:14-16 GNT)
