Having being born, brought up and educated on the Shropshire side of the North Wales border, followed by a 13 year career in the military, Haydn studied Theology at St. John’s College, Nottingham.
He was ordained deacon in 1983 and he and his wife Norma moved to Canada to serve in the Diocese of the Arctic. He was ordained priest by Bishop Sperry in 1984 and served for 23 years in the Diocese during which time he gained an MA in Counselling from Briercrest Seminary. Haydn and Norma and 2 children moved to Calgary in 2006 and then retired to High River in 2012 where they live with their son, 2 granddaughters and 2 whippets. Their daughter lives in Calgary.
